DUVAR - It will be an interesting series finale for the NB/PEI motocross series as several divisional titles are up for grabs, including the 125 and 250 Pro divisions, here Sunday at West Prince Motocross Park. Ryan Lockhart of Springhill, N.S., a regular on the National CMRC Motocross series, has the 250 Pro title in his grasps with a 41 point lead (147 to 106) while he's tied in the 125 Pro division. with Charlottetown rider Craig Budgen.
The last time they raced here at WPMXP, in Junly, Lockhart dominated his divisions taking all four races in the two classes he participated.
"We are looking forward to a great rider turnout," said Michelle Arsenault, co-owner with husband Trent, of the very challenging track. "Our last race (JULY 20) had over 100 entries in classes from 50cc to 250 pro. And we are looking forward to a great show from all the riders this time."
She noted fans should keep an eye on the local contingent of riders, who have a shot at pulling out championship title wins this weekend with solid outings. Those include Tyler Doucette (#88) of Tignish, ranked third in the 80 cc 13-16 year-old class for the Atlantic Series; Summerside's Jamie Bowness (#92) currently in first in the GP Junior, and third in the 125 Junior class and Wade Silliker (#97) of Coleman, who is ranked 17th in the 125 Junior class.
Others to watch are Charlottetown's Craig Bugden (#259) who is currently tied for first in the 125 pro class with Lockhart in the NB/PEI series and Jordan Bigelow of Lot 16, (#73) who has recently moved up from Beginner to the 250 Junior class.
Riders from across the Island are signing up everyday to race in a sport that is slowly growing, Arsenault said.
Arron Pritchard, (#982) in the 125 pro class; Mike Trainor (#173) and Bradley Harper (#738) in the 250 Junior; Nicholas Perry (#77) who rides in the 80cc 13-16 year-old class; Jamie Bernard (number unavailable) and Earl Wallace (number unavailable) in the Beginner class are other riders to watch at the upcoming race.
The track and series's youngest riders, she added, Emily Arsenault (#22) of Duvar, ranked 11th with 32 points in the Ladies Class with a shot to move into the top 10, and Chance Waite (#456) will both race in the 60 mini class with Arsenault also suiting up for the Ladies race.
Meanwhile, in the 250 Intermediate class Toys for Big Boys driver Charlie Smith, of Riverview, N.B. leads Action Cycles of Elmsdale, N.S. rider Kyle Ledwidge, of Enfield, N.S. by a mere 30 points. That can be cut down should Ledwidge dominate and Smith not come up with a good effort.
