The world of GP motocross

Even though the "Euros" had lost their position of world domination when I became interested in motocross in 1984, the photos from the far-away GP's always inspired my imagination more than anything from North America.

The Canadian national scene was little more than a collection of large local races in those days. On ill-prepared tracks with modified stock machinery. A far cry from what the CMRC nationals are today. Even the Americans had a tough time competing with the glamour and atmosphere of the world grand prix races, even if their series was known to be faster.

But some way, somehow, the GP scene was always something more. More colour, more nationality, more prestige, tricker bikes.

Today the atmosphere is still there and as a Canadian living in Germany and travelling to some of these events, I can tell you the sense of imagination is still there for me as I try to do some justice to the art of the GP photo.

Come with me ...
