For the first time since the CMRC divided the 125cc national championships in two, a Canadian has won the 125 West championship.

Dusty Klatt, Campbell River B.C. native and member of the powerful Blackfoot Honda team based in Calgary, won his first ever national motocross championship in a tight battle with teammate Ryan Morais from California.
With only six points seperating the two Honda CRF250F riders going into the final round yesterday in Regina, Saskatchewan, Morais needed to win both motos in order to win the championship (the CMRC ruled that way because Morais would have more overalls than Klatt).
Klatt was leading the first moto and had quickly massed a 10 second lead before falling on lap five. Morais and others passed Klatt while he tried to re-ignite his Honda. Eventually he got going again but would finish second in the race, some 6 seconds behind Morais
With only three points seperating the riders Klatt had to beat Morais in the second moto. When it was all said and done Klatt crossed the finish line just 4 seconds ahead of Morais, an in so doing became the first Canadian to win the 125cc West title.
