atlanticmx.com  ::  interviews  ::  Lee Steeves

Few people on the Atlantic MX circuit display the kind of determination and dedication to their sport like Lee Steeves.  Since his beginning days on his KDX, Lee has worked to improve his skills and conditioning.  So much so that in the Spring of 2000 Lee captured the 125 and 250 Intermediate titles which had eluded him.  With that success, Lee has moved up to the Pro class and we caught up with him at his track in Salisbury, New Brunswick.

When did you start racing?
Half way through 1997 I started racing a '97 KDX 220 in the Beginner class.  Then I moved up to Novice for the Fall.

In the Spring of 1998 I raced Novice again, but I broke left arm (12 screws and 2 plates) but still finished 2nd.  That Fall I moved up to the Intermediate class and finished 3rd in the 250 class.

What was your first bike?
A 1985 XR 100.

What do you like best about racing?
The way it comes down to the individual and if you push yourself hard enough, you can win!

Who do you think is the "best rider", or, who do you model yourself after?
Ryan Hughes.

Pizza or Chinese?
Pizza.

Who's the toughest person you've had to race against?
Birdman.

What was your greatest moment in racing?
Definitely winning the 125 and 250 Intermediate championship!

If you could be racing anywhere, for any team, who would it be?
PAMO Honda in Europe.

What makes you better than your competition?
I think I can reach down deep and push myself past my limits.

125's or 250's?
250's!

Where are you from?
Salisbury, New Brunswick.

What's your next big challenge?
Winning a Pro championship.

What was your worst moment in racing?
Uh, breaking my arm in Florida last winter because everything was coming together so well at that time.

MC or RC?
MC.

Who sponsors you?
Toys for Big Boys/Tucker Rocky/Griswald's Variety/Muscle and Curves Fitness Centre/RS Excavating/Renegade Racing.

How old are you?
Twenty four.

Who would you like to throw a big billowing roost over?
You!  No, everyone's going to say that!  Um... I guess I'd say "everyone" (laughs)!

What are you best at on the track?
Hammering a long whooped out straightaway (not corners and jumping!).

Favourite saying...
"Never give up - charge hard until you see the checkers!"

CGIWrap Error: Script Execution Failed
CGIWrap Error: Script Execution Failed

CGIWrap encountered an error while attempting to execute this script:

Error Message: Permission denied
Error Number: 13
This message usually indicates there is a problem with the script itself. Often this indicates either that the #! line of the script is incorrect, or the script was uploaded in binary mode instead of ascii mode. Check to make sure that the script does not have control-M's at the end of every line. That will prevent it from executing. An easy fix that takes care of this most of the time is to put '#!/.../perl --' instead of '#!/.../perl' on the first line of the script. This is typically a problem if the script was edited or uploaded from a DOS/Windows/Macintosh station to a unix based server.

If you are not the owner of this script, please forward this error and the URL that caused it to the script owner. That is often the component in the URL right after /cgiwrap/.
