Kingston
Motocross, May 6
Let's see... In
the 60 class Toys for Big Boys sponsored rider Leapin' Levi
Smith was hauling on his KX 65 while his brother Charlie
"Taz Man" Smith used his PRO-TECH
suspended CR 80 to clean up in the 80cc 13-16 and
Supermini classes. Action Cycles sponsored rider David
Estabrooks won the 80cc 7-12 class on his
Honda. I missed the women's action and most of the
Junior stuff too... sorry guys (you can submit a
synopsis here
if you like and I'll post it). In the
Intermediates lots of interesting things to
report. In the Intermediates Pro Cycle PRO-TECH
sponsored Adam Turner turned in several good
rides, even leading much of the second 125
Pro/Intermediate race. Yamaha YZF 250 rider Boo Green put in a pair of impressive
come-from-behind wins in the 125 class, beating several
Pros in the process. He looks very comfortable on
the new YZF 250. "Captain Buck" also
scored an impressive fourth in the Pro/Am moto at the
end of the day. In the Vet class Derrick Scott
and Roddy MacLeod had a good battle in the early
going, but I think those brown bottles got the best of
him after a few laps. Derrick finished second. The
first Vet moto was cancelled after it was realized some
riders were taking the "long route" while
others were taking the shorter version of the
track. In the 125 Pros I believe it was all
J&M Motorsports, Speed
Machines, Thor backed Jamie Bird on his KX
125, although in the second moto Toys for Big Boys
backed Abbie Landry and High Gear Sports' Kirk
Avery had a great battle going for second
place. Abbie came out ahead after nearly losing it
with a tip-over in the last corner. In 250 Pro
action it was all Johnny Montes on his new Honda
CR 250. He was really hauling. The 20-minute
plus 2 laps GP Pro/Am moto saw Montes also take the win
by a 30 second margin. Pro Cycle, PRO-TECH
sponsored rider Roddy MacLeod took second while Abbie
Landry was third aboard his big 520 Katoom.
We were all sorry to
miss Mitchell and Heidi Cooke as well as Ryan
Lockhart. I guess they're racing in Ontario,
warming up for the Canadian Nationals. The track
itself was in great shape. Kirk and his crew
really did a great job. The Quads were very cool
and did a lap in memory of Karl Mitchell, a friend and
fellow Quad rider who passed away last year after a
riding accident. We might have some results to
post soon.
Here's a few pics. Some
were taken by my Dad and I, but Rob O'Brien was nice
enough to send a few along too.
Got some? If you have some
pictures, email them to roddy@atlanticmx.com
and I'll post them for you.
