Gun Mitchell Cooke had an almost perfect
weekend at round two of the CMRC Atlantic Fall
series motocross championships in Kingston, Nova
Scotia. He won 5 out of 6 motos and
finished second only once, in the first 125cc
moto to Tucker Rocky Distributing backed Johnny
Montes. Cooke paid Montes back in the
second 125 moto, however, with a come from
behind, aggressive pass late in the second moto. |

In the Intermediates
Kimpex backed Boo Green was again the top
finisher although his Kawasaki had some mechanical
problems through the day. AXO/Pro-Cycle's Adam
Turner had a better weekend than last and showed
some good speed in the Kingston sand. Also showing
some increasing speed is rookie Intermediate #52 Jamie
Dunlap on his Honda. Heidi Cooke, the
first ever woman to race in the Intermediate class in
Atlantic Canada, had and up and down day Sunday starting
with a nasty crash in the first turn of the first 125
Intermediate/Pro moto. Later in the day things
came together for her and she put in some great rides.
The Novice class
highlighted some great racing action with Lee
"Holeshot" Babin winning the final Open
moto of the day. Other notables include Philippe
Breau and Lowell Sabine turning in great
rides.
80cc action saw more
dominating action by Fredericton's Mark Bird on
the #141 Kawasaki. Charlie Smith riding the
No Fear #100 Honda is almost 100% recovered from his two
broken forearms suffered earlier in the season and
finished second in both his classes. He and Alex
MacKenzie on the #20 Kawasaki had some great battles
through the day. Shane Elliot also had top
finishes in the 13-16 class.
The +25 class was again
dominated by Derek Scott on his 250cc Suzuki
while the Super Vet class saw some inspired rides by
Fast by Design Paul Smith on his throaty
426F. It seems like Paul is really getting a
handle on that four stoke power.
Also getting used to
her new bike, AXO/Barb's Berries/Auto Trans
Garage/Pro-Cycle sponsored Jaime Swinkels
holeshot both women's motos on her 125cc Honda.
She's getting faster each time she rides that
bike. But of course it was Hurricane Heidi
Cooke who stole the show on her R&B Blair's
125cc Kawasaki. Lee Anne Avery also rode her 125cc
Honda to strong finishes for the day. Hey, where's
Ashley Wallace these days?

Overheard:
"Well, I kind of
went inside of him at the beginning of the race and he
went over the berm ... so I knew when he caught up to me
that he was going to park me, and he did...that's
racing." Johnny Montes on Mitchell's
eyebrow-raising pass in the second 125 Pro moto.
"I'm going to beat
you when I get a 250." Taz Man Charlie
Smith to Roddy MacLeod at the trophy presentation.
"Do you like my
new magazine?" Boo Green with
questionable reading material.
"I went over the
big double and got totally sideways and was heading
straight for the woods.... I jumped off the bike and did
a Superman right into the trees! I picked myself
up and was charging back like a madman and passing some
guys when I went a little wide in the big sweeper
(before heading into the mystery canyon) and hit a stump
on the right." Lightening Lee Steeves
talking about his spectacular crashes in the last Open
Pro moto.
"How old is Don
MacLeod? 55 huh? Well, I guess that makes me
the second oldest rider on the track."
Junior rider Bob Thorne who was an "old
guy" in the 80's.
