Loch
Lomond Motocross
Race 2 of their 3 race
series
by David
MacLean
The second part of the three part series was held on Sunday August 19 2001 at the Loch Lomond Moto X Track . The weather was great. Clear skies, light cloud and temp around 25-27 C. Little rain has led to some dry track conditions in a lot of areas and Loch Lomond was no exception. Avery had done a terrific job of grooming his track along with watering. But the sun and dry wind had things a little dusty by the end of the race day. Again fans turned out in huge numbers to watch some great moto x racing.
In the 80cc "A" class Kyle Elliott #181 Alex MacKenzie #22 and Daniel MacRae #124 had the fans cheering as they battled in what some describe as the best moto they have seen. The action was handle bar to handle bar with big air jumps that amazed the crowd and this was only the first moto of the day. The 80 A & B class had a total of 20 riders.
The action continued with the Vet and Ladies class. Bob Thorne #80 showed the way on his 250 Honda but didn't gain any points by beating his boss Wilf Ramsay who had a 3rd place finish in the first moto. Wilf has come out of retirement and races once again. Wilf was quoted as saying " ouch". It was great to see Ed MacDonald back on his bike after the injury a year ago at RiverGlade, Ed had an overall 2nd place finish in the Vets class.
125 novice motos were every bit as exciting as the pros with Scott Fraser #38 and Chauncey Gillis #34 dicing it up for both motos. Chauncey had a get hole shot in both motos but the hard riding Fraser grabbed the lead toward the end of each
moto.
250 novice action had Kyle Verschuren in first place for both motos. With a strong ride from Steve LeBlanc and Craig Latimer.
The 125 / 250 youth class saw another terrific match between Jeff Farrow on his 250 Honda and Tony Katryck with his 250 Yamaha in the first moto. Daniel MacLean #199 and Justin Kenny #67 on their 125 KX's went toe to toe until Daniel's engine left the building. Nick Jessome #911 on his 125 Yamaha was outstanding with a second place overall finish. Nick also rode in the expert class and had a great race .
The expert class belonged to Avery MacDonald #109 with first place finishes in both motos. Derrick Selfridge , Jamie Dunlap, Bob Thorne battled for the second and third with a great performance by Nick Jessome.
