Walton
Grand National

Women's national rider Angie Kuentjes (4) |
It
was an incredible weekend at the Walton Grand National
in 2000. Here are some of the rumours,
truth and lies from the pits:
Team
Honda/Blackfoot Motosports rider Sean Hamblin,
the 125cc West national champion, was not
scheduled to race the 125 East/West shootout
race for budgetary reasons. Ron Ashley
however, manager and team owner of Two Wheel/Pro
Action/Kawasaki, got wind of this and offered
Sean a ride on one of his powerful KX's.
Sean accepted the ride and won the overall by
one point!
|
| If
that wasn't enough drama for the weekend, it
turns out some drunken goon(s) decided to burn
down the big barn on the property. After
the flames were doused both the barn and it's
contents were completely destroyed.
Nestled in the fire were propane tanks which
heightened the danger even more.
Apparently, our very own Blaine Prest became the
'hero' when he removed the tanks after the
firemen refused to do so. Two people have
been charged with arson.
Chris Lee,
organizer of the event, was reportedly
"shocked" and said that was the last
of the Walton Grand Nationals. If that's
the case, it would be a shame to end such a
wonderful 'celebration of motocross' to such a
foolish act.
So, what about
the racing? Our local riders finished this
way:
