No Fear riding gear
by Joe Treen

Riding gear has come a long way in recent years. Probably one of the biggest and most notable additions to the field is "No Fear". Although No Fear has been around for quite a few years now, their first forte into the MX riding gear market made a huge splash in 1999. With riders like McGrath, Pastrana, Tortelli, and Windham on payroll how could they go wrong? …well you still have to back it up with quality.

After riding with the No Fear gear for the past year and a half, I can honestly say that they have "backed it up"…and then some. Not surprisingly the styling is exceptional and hard not to like.

The pants fit well and have plenty of room in the knees for those of us who must, or choose to wear knee braces. Non-knee bracers might not like the "half liner" (only lined to the knee), but it is very comfortable with brace. Closure system at waist is a combination velcro/snap (the previous 1999 version was velcro only and were not as secure) with easily adjusted side velcro to tighten or loosen fit at waist. A knit cuff is provided at ankle and is quite comfy. The "kevlar" panels on the inner knee are extremely durable, but are also extremely abrasive (hard on graphics…ouch!). The little rubber "knobs" at knees are reminiscent of road racing knee puck and offer no appreciable value, other than style (if you like them). Sizing seems to be along the same lines as most pant manufacturers.

Jerseys are made of a beautifully comfortable polyester material that breaths very well. Wrist cuffs are narrow though and sleeves cut for "Jeremy" size riders (somewhat short in the sleeves). Neck is "v" type and very comfortable.

Gloves are comfortable with minimal padding on palms, but also on backs (ouch…hand guards in order). Fit is good, although not as good as some other brands out there.

Durability has been excellent, with extensive use and washings showing no appreciable wear or fading. Overall this gear is an excellent entry into the MX market and shows No Fears spent considerable time and effort in the development of this product.

Pluses: Good fit, excellent durability and…of course, extremely stylish

Minuses: Short sleeves on jerseys, abrasive inner knee patches, better gloves out there.

CGIWrap Error: Script Execution Failed

CGIWrap encountered an error while attempting to execute this script:

Error Message: Permission denied
Error Number: 13
This message usually indicates there is a problem with the script itself. Often this indicates either that the #! line of the script is incorrect, or the script was uploaded in binary mode instead of ascii mode. Check to make sure that the script does not have control-M's at the end of every line. That will prevent it from executing. An easy fix that takes care of this most of the time is to put '#!/.../perl --' instead of '#!/.../perl' on the first line of the script. This is typically a problem if the script was edited or uploaded from a DOS/Windows/Macintosh station to a unix based server.

If you are not the owner of this script, please forward this error and the URL that caused it to the script owner. That is often the component in the URL right after /cgiwrap/.
